The two disciples who had walked with the resurrected Jesus on the road to Emmaus, found the eleven (original disciples) gathered with other believers and exclaimed the Savior to be alive! (Luke 24:32-35)
Then, while the two were still speaking, as John tells us in a “locked room” (John 20:19), Jesus appears standing in the midst of them and says, “Peace to you.” (Luke 24:36)
At this point, I would have passed out, wouldn’t you? They had watched Jesus die and now He just appears in the room with them!
Those in the room were “terrified and frightened” (v 37) (Don’t you wonder if the Lord smiled, just a little bit, upon His supernatural entrance knowing the effect it would have on His friends?)
The resurrected Savior asks them why they are afraid, why they doubt, and then He shows them His hands and His feet (v 38-39). Then, He eats in their presence to further prove He was not a spirit but was flesh and bones (v 39-43)
Jesus then opens their understanding and reminds them of the things He had told them and (once again – see yesterday’s post) explains that Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms that we’re written about Him. (v 44-45)
Jesus then gives them what is called, “The Great Commission”- “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. (v 46-48)
Jesus explained to them what had happened was predicted and necessary. The Scriptures they had been taught as children had been fulfilled right in front of them. Their friend was God!
He had made the way! The only way! The wrath of God was satisfied! Death was defeated!
And it was all His plan!
Friend, know this—He was calling the shots then, and He calls them now.
And for those who believe, who repent of their sins and trust Jesus as Lord, we are called to proclaim His Name to all nations!
If you have come to know Jesus as Lord, you are a witness to these things, and YOU have been given a job from the King of Kings!
Proclaim His Name!
And especially now! Light shines brightest in dark days! (see John 1:5) Don’t hide your light under a basket. (Luke 8:16-18)
Remember what the Lord has said in His Word, know that He is coming again and holds the keys to Death and Hades in His Hands. (Rev 1:18)
He was in control then and is completely in control now.
He tells us, “In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
But do you know the first part of this verse? Jesus says,” I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace.“
Let’s know what He says! Let’s hold on to what He says! Let’s trust what He says and daily find our peace in Him.
But lets also tell others what He says as He has told us to do! (The Great Commission)
And let’s have peace in this day and all our days knowing Jesus has us and all that concerns us! May others want what they see in us!
