We jokingly call it the “family curse”. Like my dad was, most mornings I’m up around 5am without an alarm clock, and one of my kids is just like me.
It’s been great to help me get in the Word; but this morning, I was fast asleep when I heard an alarm clock going off, and thought to myself that I had slept until my husband’s alarm.
But that alarm kept sounding.
So annoying.
Why wasn’t he turning HIS alarm off?
But then.
My groggy self.
Realized.
That’s MY alarm.
For whatever reason, I had slept until my alarm went off!
But as I rolled over to turn it off, I thought about sin.
Yep.
Sin.
Annoying sin.
For how often, am I annoyed by sin that I quickly blame on someone else until I realize the sin is actually mine?
Way
Too
Often.
And how often is the person I’m blaming for sin, that is actually my own, my spouse?
Oh friends, way too often for me.
How about you?
Once again, I’m so thankful for how the Lord uses little things like alarm clocks, and big thing like marriage, to help us see our tendency to blame others instead of look in the mirror.
I’m so thankful God created marriage. How it refines us.
And how very thankful I am for the mirror of His Word to help us to remember, especially when we are annoyed with our spouses and others in this world, to look first at removing the plank out of our own eye before worrying about a speck in someone else’s (Matt 7:3).
That’s my prayer today.
Oh, Lord examine my heart.
Help me see my own sin and walk away from it.
And, what a sweet Lord to mercifully help us see His better ways, and even bring things like revival, when we ask Him to help us see and confess our own sins before ever worrying about those of others.
