This morning my heart needs to remember this.
Maybe yours does too.
David cried out to God, “Do not forsake the works of thy hands” (Psalm 138:8).
And God won’t forsake us, the works of His hands, and here’s one way we can know this—
God spoke the heavens and the earth into being so that we might see Him and give Him glory.
But unlike the rest of creation, God used His Hands to form us out of dust (Gen 2:7-9).
Then God used His Hands again to save us, when He willingly spread them on a cross to be pierced for our sins. (Mark 15:24)
God does not mind to get His all-good, all-powerful, yet tender, hands dirty and bloody for His children.
His Word tells us we are the works of His hands that His hands keep holding and leading.
“If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me,
and your right hand shall hold me.” (Psalm 139:8-10)
The Psalms also tell us God stretches out His Hands against our enemies to deliver us—
“Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
you preserve my life;
you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and your right hand delivers me.” (Psalms 138:7)
God, who cannot lie (Heb 6:18), reminds us that He holds us, leads us and delivers us with His all powerful, all good hands throughout scripture.
And so much of the Psalms are about God’s hands that it occurs to me if I drop just one letter from the title of this wonderful book, I see the word “palms” —His palms.
And this morning, my heart needed to remember He holds me, and He holds all that concerns me, in His palms.
Maybe your heart needed to remember this too.
