Have you ever wondered if some people are just too messed up for God to save? Have you possibly ever wondered this about yourself?

But the thing is, the impossibility of the gospel is pretty much the whole point of the gospel.

God makes this clear when Jesus called Levi (Matthew), the tax collector, to follow Him as His disciple. (Luke 5:27-28).

For, at that time, to call a tax collector, was to call a robber, a cheat, a hated betrayer of the people.

Tax collectors were Jews, who worked for Rome, and grew rich by taking whatever they could from their fellow Jews for taxes for Rome and keeping part of the proceeds for themselves.

They were despised and not even allowed to worship at the synagogues.

But Jesus calls THIS man as he sat in the very place of his sin. It was radical!

What talk that must have caused.

And Levi, he just gets up from his tax table, leaves everything, and follows Jesus.

Can you imagine? One moment you are sitting in your sin and the next you are following Jesus as a disciple!

But that’s just it!

And isn’t that the same story for all of us who call Christ, Lord?

We were all sitting in a mess of sin unable to save ourselves!

Thank God, no one is too far gone!

Today, we might not get so aggravated at the call of a tax collector; but what about others we might think are too far gone?

How about the adulterer? The murderer? The abortion doctor? The drag queen?

What about the person who cheated you? How about the one who really hurt your child? What about that prodigal for whom you’ve prayed for years?

If salvation is offered to all, doesn’t all mean “all”?

The Bible says, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13

Everyone.
Anyone.

This passage goes on to say,
“But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? “And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”(Rom 10:14-15)

Oh friend, do you see them? Those sitting at the tables of sin—feasting on emptiness and misery in their search for satisfaction.

Do you remember sitting at that very same table?

Our sin may have looked and tasted different, but it was still sin… and no better than anyone else’s.

Sometimes that’s a hard truth to swallow. But it’s true.

We all need Jesus. None of us are too far gone.

Thank God, those of us who know Jesus as Lord, weren’t too far gone in the sin we may be remembering right now!

May our grateful hearts, long for others to taste and see of His goodness. May we see others as God sees than and may we go and tell!

What’s more, and very importantly, especially for you who are older in the faith, this is no time to rest!! The time is short! May you be ever more determined to disciple those who turn to the Lord so they may know how to walk, and keep walking, in freedom!!
