Shocking Words

Those disciples knew about the Passover and lambs but they were shocked at Jesus’ words as they sit down to have what is now famously called, “The Last Supper.”

Jesus breaks the bread of Passover but instead of using the long familiar words to His Jewish disciples, He shockingly says, “this is My body” and “this is My blood”. (Matt 26:26-29).

He was declaring Himself to be the Perfect Lamb! This was radical.

And with this profound declaration Jesus said He was establishing a new covenant —(His blood) “is shed for many for the remission of sins.” (Matt 26:28)

The Enduring Word App says, “No mere man could ever institute a new covenant between God and man, but Jesus is the God-man. He has the authority to establish a new covenant, sealed with blood, even as the old covenant was sealed with blood (Exodus 24:8). The new covenant concerns an inner transformation that cleanses us from all sin: For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more (Jeremiah 31:34). This transformation puts God’s Word and will in us: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts (Jeremiah 31:33). This covenant is all about a new, close relationship with God: I will be their God, and they shall be My people (Jeremiah 31:33).”

Don’t miss this part — This transformation puts God’s Word and will in us: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts (Jeremiah 31:33).

To be a Christian is both a head and heart thing— the demons believe and shudder (James 2:19) but they do not have hearts that love God and desire to surrender to His will.

Friend, understanding this is life and death—please know you can cognitively believe in Jesus’ existence just like the demons do and still be completely and utterly lost.

But if you have surrendered all you know of you, to all you know of Him, and your heart desires to follow Him in obedience, you are saved— covered by the New Covenant of His life-saving blood.

Yes, we all step in sin, but if you can walk in it as a lifestyle or habit, without conviction, Jesus is not your Lord. You may believe in His existence, but He is not your Savior.

If you have a head-knowledge religion that’s never changed your life, you may even like the Bible like you like trail mix. You pick out the pieces that seem good to you and ignore the rest.

Oh friend, if this is you, have you considered that you are worshipping a God that you’ve created in your own mind that amazingly seems to agree with you all the time?

But the truth is, Jesus came and did for you what you can never do for yourself!

He is the Lamb! His body broken for us! His blood spilled for the remission of our sins!

Jesus, paid it all. The King died in our place! All to Him we owe!
