Jesus loves us so very much that He didn’t keep Himself from the Cross or from feeling our hard, human emotions.
In Matthew 13, Jesus talks about the kingdom of Heaven being like a treasure to be found, and a Pearl of great price worthy of the giving of all. (Matt 13:44-46)
In these parables, Jesus is demonstrating His willingness to give all He had for us. We are the great joy He counts worthy of this great price.
And a price He surely paid.
He paid for it on the Cross, but Jesus also suffered before the Cross. He was rejected by those closest to Him including His own family (see Matt 13:54-58).
He also suffered the death of His cousin and friend for telling others about Him (Matt 14:1-12). Can you imagine those emotions?
Though He was fully God, Jesus was also fully man. (Phil 2:6-8). Because of this, Jesus felt the very real human emotions of living life.
Our God, unlike those gods of every other religion, came to earth and exposed Himself to hurt, sadness, rejection and more.
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.” (Heb 4:15)
And that same Jesus, who sympathizes with our weaknesses and understands what temptation feels like, is at the right hand of the Father interceding for us in this very moment. (Rom 8:34)
THIS very moment.
For the thing gripping your heart and causing knots in your stomach.
Jesus knows what to pray when we don’t!
And John called Him our ADVOCATE (1 John 2:1) and Hebrews says He loves to make intercession for us! (Heb 7:25).
I looked up these verses in my Bible. I literally picked up my precious Bible and held those promises close to my heart. Because I need to know this right now. My heart is breaking over something and I’m honestly weary. I have prayed everything I know to pray.
But my Savior knows and He doesn’t stop. He knows exactly what we need! And this truth calms my fears.
I know God is good. I know He is faithful. I know He’s at work. And His Word helps me keep knowing this.
Oh, what a Savior!
