The Word draws us back to freedom—again and again.

Well, I didn’t want to read that.

Yes, I’ve heard the Holy Spirit pressing on my heart, but I’ve thought I could just scoot past the nudging.

And if I’m real honest, just between us, this thing has been an issue for me before and I thought the same sin wouldn’t be a problem for me again.😳

In fact, I had already underlined it in my Bible so surely, God doesn’t need to talk with me again about it.

Except He does.

“For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. “ (Matt 12:34)

Because my heart is prone to wander, my mouth is prone to run.

“For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” (Matt 12:34-37)

Ouch. Oh.
And I know.

And while Jesus was talking to religious leaders here, the Word pierces my own heart today.

My tongue has been too loose lately. I’ve carelessly said things I shouldn’t and deliberately said things that were unkind (especially to my sweet husband).

And my Father loves me enough to talk to me about it again through His Word.

That’s how good our God is. He wants us to walk away from sins that so easily enslave us. He does not want us to pick up our old chains or be yoked again to sins’ slavery .

Paul tells us, “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” (Gal 5:1)

Sin=slavery

And believers can walk right back to it when we allow sin to go unchecked in our lives.

But the Word checks us. It’s truth pulls us back to freedom. And not once, but again and again.

And friend, until we no longer have a flesh nature, we will need that “pulling back to freedom” through the Word, again and again.

Let’s encourage each other to daily run to truth, let’s hold tight to our Savior, let’s walk in freedom and away from sin that so easily entangles.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” (Heb 12:1-2)
