A few thoughts to help us discern our hearts regarding judging

I know many of you, who follow this page, have hearts that love the Lord and want to follow Him closer. Most also know, the Bible tells us our hearts can be deceitful above all things and hard to understand (Jer 17:9).

Yesterday, we looked at Matthew 7:1 about judging. I really like what the Enduring Word commentary app has to say about this. I think it helps me discern my own heart when it comes to judging. It says—

“The Christian is called to show unconditional love, but the Christian is not called to unconditional approval. “

“So while (the Bible) does not prohibit examining the lives of others, it certainly prohibits doing it in the spirit it is often done”

The commentary gives really good, practical, daily living insight on this and explains—

“We break this command when we think the worst of others.

· We break this command when we only speak to others of their faults.

· We break this command when we judge an entire life only by its worst moments.

· We break this command when we judge the hidden motives of others.

· We break this command when we judge others without considering ourselves in their same circumstances.

· We break this command when we judge others without being mindful that we ourselves will be judged.”

The bottom line here is that we are to prayerfully examine our own hearts and motives before we attempt to examine the same of others.

By considering the above, we can prayerfully approach situations with a Christ-like perspective where the goal is for the good of others rather than for us to simply be right or to win an argument. 😳

Pausing to prayerfully check our hearts helps us live out our faith in this hard and crazy world, AND truly love others well with their eternal good in mind. 💕
