Spurgeon said, “Spiritual ignorance is the constant source of error, instability, and sorrow.”
The Apostle Paul would agree as he sets out to convey the truth of the riches of God’s glory in this letter to the Colossians that he has penned.
He knew hearts would be encouraged and knit together by the treasures of godly wisdom and knowledge.
Right off the bat, Paul writes that he is praying for them to be “filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding that you may walk worthy of the Lord…” (Col 1:9-10)
And with that, may those who study the Word be encouraged.
You do well.
This is worth it.
As you get up early, or stay up late to get in the Word, as you drag yourself to church and Bible study…Friend, you are guarding your heart and mind in Christ Jesus “fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God, strengthened with all might…” (Col 1:10-11)
And notice….you are being strengthened “according to HIS glorious power”… NOT YOUR OWN! (Col 1:11)
When you endeavor to live as the Lord would have you and follow His ways, as you search them out in the Scriptures and apply them to your life, you will be supernaturally strengthened and be given things like “patience”, “longsuffering” and “joy”!
Yes! There will be times we will be tempted to go our own way and be led astray by this world and it’s false teachings, but we need to remember we have THE better way in Jesus.
And even when hard days come, because of His glorious power, not our own, we can still have patience and even joy in our sufferings—I’ve seen people experience this, haven’t you?
May those of you who seek to teach your children, your grandchildren, and others spiritual truths BE REASSURED—though the world mocks and criticizes your efforts to help others know truth and walk in it, this is the MOST LOVING and LASTING thing you can do for them.
Someone, needs to hear me —what you are doing to dig for treasure in the Word is worth it!
It matters!
Don’t give up!
Keep studying and sharing! Keep planting seeds! Keep speaking truth in love! Keep pointing to the Savior who changed your life!
As we strive to help others take hold of the hope of the gospel, we are equipping them with spiritual understanding and knowledge that will bode them well, no matter what their life may hold.
It will not return void and will carry those we love long after we are gone.
Those who know and apply truth to their lives will not be tossed to and fro by the fickle whims of this world but will have an anchor for their souls as they test everything with the Word. (See Eph 4:11-16)
Paul will go on to call spiritual wisdom and knowledge “treasures” in this letter ( Col 2:3)—and they are indeed treasures that cannot be taken away!
So keep on digging for it on your own and sharing it with others!

Perhaps go back and read Col 1 again…there’s so much there!
