She is twelve.
Those are pages from her journal in the photo.
My niece is slowly working through the Bible. She’s studying. She is trying to understand. She’s hiding God’s Word in her heart.
For years, she’s watched her parents do the same. A while back, she and I were discussing a passage over the phone and she asked me to “hold on” so she could get her Daddy’s Bible and see if he had underlined anything or written notes in his Bible on that section.
Her parents love Jesus and take Him at His Word. They believe knowing and keeping His commands will bring peace to themselves and their children. It will be health to their flesh and strength to their bones-
Proverbs 3 says, “My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep my commands;
For length of days and long life
And peace they will add to you.
Let not mercy and truth forsake you;
Bind them around your neck,
Write them on the tablet of your heart,
And so find favor and high esteem
In the sight of God and man.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.
Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and depart from evil.
It will be health to your flesh,
And strength to your bones.”
As we believe this, live this, and teach this to our kids, we will see blessing as individuals, families and nations.
Parents, this is no small thing. It should be our first priority.
We say we want revival in this country, but we have to understand our greatest impact will be on those in our own households. It’s our job. It’s our most important job.
Are we diligently training our kids and grandkids up in the way they should go?
Do they see us seeking the Lord and obeying Him?
God tells us, “These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” (Deut 6: 6-9)
What is on your schedule this Saturday?
Are you rushing out the door to a ballgame? Are you cleaning out your garage?
Whatever you are doing, begin with your own time with the Lord so His Words are on your heart. Then, just talk about them as you go about the day. Ask the Lord to show you opportunities to teach your kids what He is teaching you.
And in doing so, you will be blessed and so will your children. Because those who seek Him, find Him. (Jer 29:13)
And there is nothing better!

What a “word”! This is monumental!!! LIFE CHANGING for our babies!!! I’m involved with a family…a great grandmother trying to raise a 12 year old female who was born to drug addicted parents and taken from them at 11 months old. She hasn’t been raised in the way you are describing and the devil has a HUGE foothold in her life! I won’t go into all the details, but the more I learn about what all she’s doing, the more shocked I am. ONLY GOD can change the direction of this child’s life!!! Pray, pray, pray that He intervenes and she can be saved from satans’ grip! Praying for a miracle…and that eventually she will become a living testimony of the Glory of our God!!!!

Yes, I agree we need to teach the word to our children and grandchildren.

Very encouraging. I love it that Kim’s niece saw her parents model seeking truth through God’s word and followed that example. Some are willing to invest tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars in their children’s education and extracurricular activities. While this may potentially be a good investment, the greatest gift you can give to your kids and grandchildren is sharing the truth of the gospel and the revealed truth of a loving God revealed in the Bible and of course living out what you believe.
