It’s one thing to be sick over the sin in our culture, but it’s entirely another, and necessary, to have times when I’m sick over my own sin.
When you ask the Lord to show you your sin, He does.
And it is always out of His kindness that God shows us and leads us to repentance (Rom 2:4).
If we never recognized our sin, would we ever have turned from it and turned toward the Savior for salvation in the first place?
But after we come to know the Lord, we should continually ask the Lord to search us and show us if there is any wicked way in us. (In US, not our spouses. Anyone? 🙋🏻♀️)
This “ search me, show me” lifelong prayer is how God leads us in the way everlasting (Psalm 139:24)and directs our steps (Prov 3:5-6).
If we simply said a prayer about our sins a long time ago, and haven’t routinely asked the Lord to search us and show us our sin since then , we won’t grow in our walk with Him.
What’s more, we can’t run the race that God has set out before us when we get caught up in sin that so easily entangles (Heb 12:1-2).
In a little over a week, Christians all around the world will celebrate Easter!
Oh friend, as we remember the God who saved us and what He saved us from, as we prepare our hearts to celebrate, let’s ask Him to search our hearts and show us any wicked way in us.
Let’s remember, it is out of His kindness that He will do so.
For as we continue to turn from sinful things, we will walk closer to Him, and there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING better than that.
Why not take a slow, prayerful read of the scriptures referenced above and Psalm 51 (below) written by David, a man after God’s own heart, who had walked so close with the Lord, but then walked right into sin with Bathsheba.
But David, didn’t stay stuck there. And let’s be on guard to see sin in our lives and not stay stuck in it either.
David went on to rejoice in sweet fellowship with the Lord AGAIN because the Lord in His loving kindness, is faithful to forgive us, use us, and grow us, when we continue to confess and turn away from our sins and walk towards Him.
Psalm 51
Have mercy upon me, O God,
According to Your lovingkindness;
According to the multitude of Your tender mercies,
Blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
And cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I acknowledge my transgressions,
And my sin is always before me.
4 Against You, You only, have I sinned,
And done this evil in Your sight—
That You may be found just [a]when You speak,
And blameless when You judge.
5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
And in sin my mother conceived me.
6 Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts,
And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Make me hear joy and gladness,
That the bones You have broken may rejoice.
9 Hide Your face from my sins,
And blot out all my iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me away from Your presence,
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
And uphold me by Yourgenerous Spirit.
13 Then I will teach transgressors Your ways,
And sinners shall be converted to You.
14 Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God,
The God of my salvation,
And my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness.
15 O Lord, open my lips,
And my mouth shall show forth Your praise.
16 For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it;
You do not delight in burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,
A broken and a contrite heart—
These, O God, You will not despise.
What a Savior!!

I heard something interesting today.
A sports employee at a college said there were 2 dimensions to the cross.
The up-down piece is God’s love for us.
The horizontal piece should be our love of one another. “Something we need to work at.”(my words)
