The Apostle Paul said, “Meditate on these things, give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all.” (I Tim 4:15)
Slow down.
Sit still.
Clear your mind.
Give yourself ENTIRELY to thinking about the things of God.
Well, I’ll just check my phone first. I probably should throw in a load of laundry. Honestly, I need thirty more minutes of sleep.
We are all so busy and so easily distracted.
I’m so used to multitasking. I multitask the multitask! I’m usually doing one thing while thinking about two more. And then there’s my phone. It’s never too far from me reminding me of four more things to do.
It’s hard to give myself entirely to being still and listening well.
But I want to listen. I want to read the Word and let it do it’s work in me. I don’t want to miss what the Lord is saying.
The truth is, if we want to grow in our walk with Jesus so that our “progress may be evident to all” (1Tim 4:15), or maybe just evident to those who live under the same roof as us, then we need to fight to quiet our hearts and minds, intentionally pull away from distractions, and be still so we can know and keep knowing that He is God.
I see the effect of those who do this, don’t you?
Those who diligently spend time with God have observable peace, undeniable strength and steadfast wisdom.
They exercise their faith and have grown spiritual muscles. (1Tim 4:8-9)
But even spiritual muscles will turn to flab if we don’t intentionally keep up the work of being still and spending time meditating on the things of God. There is no retirement from seeking the things of God.
So, here’s my question for you? What’s your plan to do this?
When? Where? How do you quiet yourself?
Let’s face it, if we don’t plan to do something it doesn’t happen.
If we didn’t plan to go to the grocery store, we’d starve.
Likewise, if we don’t plan to gather in our daily bread from the Word, we will grow weak spiritually.
And let me say this, I’m not talking about just reading what I write in the mornings, or someone else’s words, you need to spend time with the Lord in prayer and reading His Word for yourself. He will speak to you there more than anywhere else.
And if you are really serious about this, why not ask someone to hold you accountable? It really will help!
Let’s do this! Let’s encourage one another, and all the more as we see the Day approaching. (Heb 10:25)
“For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.” (1 Tim 4:8)
