I breezed right past the verse and started reading ahead. But then. I just felt the urge to back up, to slow down, to linger longer.
I think the Lord wanted me to pay attention.
And the truth is, these words are both terrifying and relevant—“some will depart the faith and give heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons.” (1 Tim 4:1)
And you only have to spend a few minutes on social media, reading what the “coolest” pastors and speakers are touting to wonder if they’ve taken their eye off the prize and departed the faith for the more popular stages.
It’s not that we shouldn’t care about popular things like social justice or politics, but we can’t forsake speaking truth as we do.
We can’t jump on the bandwagon of worldly solutions and never mention the fact that all, who do not know the Lord as Savior, are ultimately doomed no matter how great their temporary life could be made here.
They are still lost. Still Hopeless.
Right this minute, there are deceiving spirits who are waging a war against souls.
They’ve come to steal, kill and destroy. (John 10:10)
Let’s don’t be deceived or distracted by political or social justice solutions that ignore sin that is tearing apart people, families and our country.
We need Christian leaders who will still call sin “sin”, and stand for Biblical truth, even when that truth is unpopular, mocked and scorned.
Even if it makes them unpopular, mocked or scorned.
Adrian Rogers said, “It is better to be divided by truth than to be united in error. It is better to speak the truth that hurts and then heals, than falsehood that comforts and then kills.”
Early Christians risked their lives to preach the Gospel. Why? Because they weren’t obsessed with being liked by the culture. There was a unity around the cause of Christ. Those early believers were okay with being hated by culture and souls were saved because of that.
We fall apart and back down when we lose a few followers in our fake online universe.
Let’s speak truth.
Let’s do it in love.
But let’s don’t back down, departing the faith and giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons.
No, let’s choose this day whom we will serve and boldly serve Him!
Jesus is the real and only HOPE for this world!
