Are there false teachers among us? Certainly. The early church was impacted by them and so are we.
The Apostle Paul was prompted to write his letter to the church at Colosse to encourage believers to walk in Christ and resist the false teaching of the day.
Paul sought out to refute the false teaching by teaching truth.
One such false teaching that Paul sought to refute was the belief that there were other mediators between God and man.
Paul emphasizes—it’s only Jesus—in Him dwells all fullness and by Him, alone, are we reconciled to God.
“For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.”(Col 1:19-20)
Christ is the ONLY mediator between God and man. His blood made our peace. What He did was enough and gave those who call on Him as Savior access to a Holy God. (See yesterday’s post on this page for more on this).
And because Jesus is the only mediator between God and man it is to Him ALONE that we pray. (This is a key theological difference between Protestants and Catholics that I would encourage my Catholic friends to consider).
But though we pray only to Jesus, we can pray to Him about anything and everything-when we are happy, sad, angry, hurt, confused…whatever we are feeling, we can go to Him.
We go to GOD through Jesus!
The One true God.
THE KING OF THE UNIVERSE hears our prayers!
It is incredibly sweet to me to remember, once again, WHO we can run to regardless of how we are feeling.
We don’t have to get our emotions cleaned up, or even understand everything we read in the Bible, before we can go to God and pray. We can freely approach the throne of the Most High God and ask Him to help us because Jesus made the way.
“And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight—if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.” (Col 1:21-23)
We who have been reconciled by the blood of the Lamb, therefore, pronounced holy and blameless, can go to God and keep going to God.
What a Savior!!
Yes, there are hard things going on around us tempting us to despair. And there is false teaching trying to confuse us.
But friend, let’s don’t be moved away from the hope of the gospel by false teaching in our crazy world, or our emotions, or anything else!
As Paul wrote in another of his famous letters,
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil. Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it. (1Thess 5:16-24)
HE WILL SURELY DO IT!
I’m so thankful He comforts us and helps us know truth as we pick up the Word. He will surely do it! ❤️
