Unity for unity’s sake never unified anyone.
This is true in our country and in our churches.
People will unify around common purpose and common belief not some empty call for unity for unity’s sake.
As Christians, we can never go along with things that go against the Word of God in the name of unity. To do so, is not love nor is it truth.
If churches would tirelessly teach the whole counsel of God’s Word, and how to apply it to our own lives. AND how to lovingly engage others in our culture with this truth —we would see unity as never before.
The Apostle Paul tells us we are to be conformed to the Image of God’s Son that He might be the firstborn of many brothers. (Rom 8:29)
Brothers.
Doesn’t that sound like real unity?
No, we were never called to some empty idea of unity for unity’s sake but to make (brothers) disciples of Christ who make more (brothers) disciples of Christ.
Jesus defined brothers (and sisters) this way— “whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” (Matt 12:50)
I believe Jesus speaks to false calls for unity when He says, “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword”(Matt 10: 34)
That sword is the Word of God. It separates truth from lies and right from wrong . It divides between those who choose to follow what God says in His Word and those who do not.
Christian, we were never called to be unified with a lost and dying world. We are called to be salt and light and to apply biblical principles to all of our worldview— that means our politics and everything else— and we are to encourage others to do the same.
For Jesus is THE Way, THE truth and THE LIFE!
