We have to test everything because the enemy is at work all around us.
The evil one is no less sly than he has ever been; and we have to be on guard, and especially so, with those we allow to speak into our lives.
I recently read on a local, family counselor’s website, who lists an MDiv in his experience, the following statement—
“I am not judgmental and welcome and affirm any perspective and all lifestyles (LGBTQIA+, Swingers, ENM, Poly, and the like).”
Many counselors today, will affirm your sin and let you define family and lifestyle any way you want. Just hand over your fee, and you will likely be told that you can be happy walking in what God calls sin—even sexual deviation as described in the statement above such as polygamy and ENM (“ethical non monogamy”). (I had to look that disgusting, ludicrous term up! )
Let’s understand, let’s be on guard, because some who tout their Christian background have one in the same way Satan does—they know there is a God, they just think themselves wiser and better.
Friends, we have to diligently do our homework and protect ourselves and our families from false teachers who are instruments of the evil one.
Just as the Bible tells us, their numbers will grow as the end times approach (2 Pet 2:1).
Let’s be diligent to know the truth and guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, and be very careful about who we allow to provide counsel in our lives.
Let’s stand for truth and warn others of those who pervert the Word of God and profit from those who have “itching ears” (2 Tim 4:3) looking for someone to affirm them in their sin.
I appreciate this insight on “itching ears”—
“When people have “itching ears,” they decide for themselves what is right or wrong, and they seek out others to support their notions. “Itching ears” are concerned with what feels good or comfortable, not with the truth—after all, truth is often uncomfortable. Paul’s warning is that the church would one day contain those who only opened their ears to those who would scratch their “itch.”
Those with “itching ears” only want teachers who will assure them that all is well, teachers who say, “Peace, peace . . . when there is no peace” (Jeremiah 6:14). Where there is a demand for something, the suppliers are not far away. Paul says that not only will there be great demand for watered-down, personalized messages, but there will be “a great number of teachers” willing to provide such pap and steer people away from “sound doctrine.”
Evidence today of people having “itching ears” includes the popularity of messages that people are not required to change, as if repentance were outmoded; that people are basically good; that God is too loving to judge anyone; that the cross, with all its blood, is not really necessary; and that God wants His children to be healthy, wealthy, and content in this world. As people turn their backs on the truth about sin and condemnation, they disregard their need for repentance and forgiveness. And a craving for “new” and “fresher” ideas grows—even though there is “nothing new under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9–10)—accompanied by a longing to feel good about who they are and where they’re going. Messages that tickle ears can fill a lot of churches, sell a lot of books, and buy a lot of time on cable tv.” (gotquestions.org)
Does this not sound like our world today? Indeed, “When there is a demand for something, the suppliers aren’t too far away”!
May we “ test everything; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.” (1 Thess 5:21-22) and as we do “may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.” (1 Thess 5:23-24).
Oh God, open our eyes, protect and direct us—for our good and Your glory!
