So you can REST!

If we don’t know truth, we won’t recognize lies in order to refute them.

If we aren’t diligent to walk in truth, we are likely to buy the lies of this world and walk right into a bunch of trouble. The keep-you-up-at-night kind of trouble.

We have an enemy. He is the father of all lies (John 8:44). He has come to do even more than keep you up at night, he has come to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10).

One way he succeeds at this is by influencing us with wrong thinking.

Friend, we are in just as much danger of being carried away by false doctrines today as those early believers who prompted Peter’s second letter so long ago. Perhaps, even more so.

Peter knew that the best way to recognize and refute lies and “escape corruption that is in the world” (2 Pet 1:3) is to know the truth and walk in it.

Jesus Himself said, “Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it.” Luke 11:28

The Word is so very powerful in helping us escape the snares the enemy has set for us in this world and rest contently.

The more we study the Word, the more we recognize its power to bring peace, hope and joy not dependent on our circumstances when we follow it.

The great old preacher teacher Oswald Chambers said, “Once, the Bible was just so many words to us–“clouds and darkness”–then, suddenly, the words became spirit and life because Jesus re-speaks them to us when our circumstances make the words new. That is the way God speaks to us; not by visions and dreams, but by words. When a man gets to God, it is by the most simple way–words.”

Oh friend, we have the very words of the One who came to give us life and life abundantly (John 10:10) right at our fingertips! He will remind us of them just when we need them most (John 14:26).

Yes, trouble will still come this side of Heaven, but that doesn’t mean we have to be “touched by it” where we fall apart.

Proverbs 19:23 says, “The fear of the LORD leads to life, So that one may sleep satisfied, untouched by evil.”

At street level this means, I reverentially fear the Lord and trust Him more than I trust me so I choose to obey Him in every way I know how. Because of this, I can lay my head on my pillow at night and rest remembering my Father has me and all that concerns me.

If I choose to take things in my own hands and sin, that’s when I need to worry and that’s when my worries will probably keep me up at night.

Let’s choose this day and every day to follow the Lord, then let’s lay our heads on our pillows and REST!

He has us! Glory to Him!
