Jesus emphasizes the need to not take sin lightly but radically remove it from our lives when he talks about plucking out your own eye or cutting off your hand if they help you to sin (Matt 18:8-9).
For some of us, we need to kill the friendship, block the phone number, throw out the computer, leave the job, get rid of the television, or cut up the credit card.
We know the people, places and things that tempt us to sin. Something might be coming to your mind as you read these words. Pay attention.
We can’t play with this because the enemy has one goal and that is to use those areas of weakness to rob, kill and destroy us and take us further into misery than we ever expected to go.
And so, it’s worthy to routinely take a prayerful pause and ask God if there are areas of sin in your life that need to be removed. (Seriously pray).
Ask Him to help you see your weaknesses and temptations and to give you wisdom to do whatever it takes to walk away from sin.
Let’s remember, we are not Home yet. We live in a spiritual war zone. We have an enemy who does not fight fair. He will kick us when we are down and doesn’t mind to strike old weaknesses and wounds. Nothing is off limits in his evil book.
But we have a Father who will always make a way out (1 Cor 10:13).
Let’s train our ears to hear His voice and let’s quicken our feet to follow Him closely and walk away from sin that so easily entangles.
For as we prayerfully acknowledge Him, He will make our paths straight (Prov 3:6), show us offensive ways in us, and lead us in the way everlasting (Psalm 139:24)
What a Savior!
